Absorption imaging of ultracold neutral plasmas, Apr. Ieee Transactions on Plasma Science. 33:540-541.
AbstractWe report optical absorption imaging of ultracold neutral plasmas. Imaging allows direct observation of the ion density profile and expansion of the plasma. The frequency dependence of the plasma's optical depth gives the ion absorption spectrum, which is broadened by the ion motion. We use the spectral width to monitor ion equilibration in the first 250 ns after plasma formation. On a microsecond time scale, we observe the radial acceleration of ions resulting from pressure exerted by the trapped electron gas.

Doubly-excited 2s2 1Se resonance state of helium embedded in Debye plasmas. Chemical Physics Letters. 402:544-548., Number 4–6
AbstractWe have made a first investigation on the resonances in two electron systems in various model plasma environments. The 2s2 1Se autoionization resonance state in the helium atom is determined by calculating the density of resonance states using the stabilization method. A screened Coulomb potential obtained from the Debye model is used to represent the interaction between the charged particles. A correlated wave function has been used to represent the correlation effect between the three charge particles. The calculated resonance energies and widths for various Debye parameters ranging from infinity to a small value along with the ground state energies are reported.
