Carbon Cation
Due to its flexible balance of s and p orbitals, carbon species are found in many different geometrical forms: linear chains, planar graphene, and three dimensional fullerenes. Using a combination of theoretical calculation and isomer selected mass spectrometry experiments, we interrogated how the nature of different electronic states is imprinted in the reaction products and rate of Cn+D2 (n=4-9) reaction.
